Insulation Melt

A soldering iron is hot enough to melt most insulation. For fine gage wire with thin insulation this can be the most effective way to strip insulation for soldered connections.

Hold the insulated wire against the contact. Heat the wire and the contact. Apply solder. Continue heating until the solder flows indicating that the insulation has melted away and a good connection made.

It is possible to make multipoint connections with the free end of wire still on a spool. Only when the last connection is made will it be necessary to cut the wire.
